Mandatory FMCSA Transition Active (May 2026)

Complete Your MOTUS Account Setup

All motor carriers are required to complete account setup on the FMCSA's new MOTUS portal. This process includes login.gov identity verification, entity confirmation, and registration of your operating credentials.

Begin account setup

Enter your USDOT number to retrieve your current carrier profile form FMCSA public registry and review setup requirements.

The New motus.dot.gov Mandate

Why Self-Registration Often Fails

Unlike the legacy URS and MCMIS databases, the new MOTUS registration portal links directly with federal identity checking. A single name variation between your state corporation records, tax IDs, and Login.gov registration will trigger a hard block.

Identity Validation & Biometrics

The Company Official must verify their identity using government-issued photo IDs and biometric facial scans. We prepare you to pass this check on the first try.

Legitimacy Audit

Automated checks audit IRS EIN records and state business registries. Mismatched addresses will suspend your submission.

Advisory Benefits

  • Avoid Red Tape: Direct access to consultants experienced in resolution protocols for Login.gov lockout errors.
  • Maintain Authorities: Ensure biennial updates (MCS-150) are correctly filed so your commercial vehicles keep moving.
  • Insurance & Agent Filings: Assistance in coordinating BMC-91 surety filings and Form BOC-3 process agent submissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to the most common questions regarding the new FMCSA system.

What is MOTUS?

MOTUS (Motor Carrier Operations and Tracking Unified System) is the FMCSA's current registration and identity management portal. It replaces legacy systems including URS and MCMIS

All motor carriers are required to complete account setup in this system.

Do I need a new USDOT number?

No. If you have an existing USDOT number, you are not required to obtain a new one. You must claim your existing record on the MOTUS portal and complete identity and entity verification under the new system.

If your current filing contains outdated or inconsistent information, additional steps may be required during the claiming process.

What is Login.gov?

Login.gov is the federal government's identity verification platform. FMCSA requires the Company Official to authenticate through Login.gov using a government-issued photo ID and a biometric facial scan.

The name and details on your ID must match your business records exactly.

Why is there a processing fee if the government portal is free?

Registering on motus.dot.gov is a free government process. Our processing fee covers the private advisory services we provide, documentation review, guided setup support, and your virtual appointment.
